Part of living a healthy life includes developing wellness habits. This month, FHR’s Drop in Center in Raleigh, North Carolina, has been working together to learn about proper foot care. We were fortunate enough to have The Sean Ingram Academy of Nail Technology partner with us to provide members with spa treatment pedicures at no cost.
“The opportunity provided a learning experience for our students as well as the joy of hearing and seeing the individuals from FHR smile and comment on how this was the first pedicure in their life,” shared a teacher from the academy.
Along with the pedicures, staff members also led a Jeopardy game on the topic of foot care, and learned helpful pointers and tips with a take-home flyer. Information was also discussed regarding connecting with local providers offering foot care and what type of insurances these providers accepted.
“We even incorporated Studio 35 creative arts components into this curriculum, using photography, drawings, and a foot care comic strip,” said Dana Barnes, FHR Drop In Center Program Director.
“So many of our members’ and clients’ foot care needs are overlooked and needed to be addressed,” Barnes added. “The technicians informed us of any issues to follow up with so that our members and Drop In Center staff can speak with caregivers or podiatrists, if needed.”
