FHR Art Therapist/Program Director of Studio 35 Jenevieve Sullivan presented a workshop at the 2016 NAMI Rhode Island Bridging the Gap Conference, held May 25, 2016 at The Ray Conference Center at Butler Hospital. This event brought together healthcare providers and professionals, individuals in recovery, and friends and family members to explore topics including planning steps for long range family member care, the benefits of peer workers, and issues in advocacy.

The Studio 35 therapeutic arts workshop was held in two sessions to over 40 participants, and focused on coping skill development and the use of Zentangles.

“Zentangles are an easy-to-learn and relaxing way to create images, beginning with a tangled ‘doodle’ using focus to calm and center oneself,” explained Jenevieve. “I also presented variations on the Zentangle Method that I have found to be more successful with individuals with persistent mental health issues, including an introduction to the very popular adult coloring books and the less well known adult dot to dot books. Different art materials and which supplies work best in each setting were shared.”

FHR’s Harbor House Program Director John Rego was also proud to participate in the event, pictured above.
