FHR members in North Carolina visited local medical centers to spread holiday cheer in surrounding communities

Raleigh, NC – January 13, 2012 – Members of Fellowship Health Resources, Inc. (FHR) participated in a peer-created group called Community Outreach through Song and Dance (CORTSAD) this holiday season. Each December, the CORTSAD group reaches out to other organizations and community members in the Raleigh area.

On Monday, December 5, CORTSAD assembled to visit the pediatric unit of the WakeMed Hospital. FHR’s CORTSAD participants said that they were well appreciated by everyone at this center. Psychosocial Rehabilitation Program Manager Dana Barnes and Case Manager Cecil Pusey accompanied persons served on these trips.

The following Monday, December 12, CORTSAD visited the Blue Ridge Nursing Home and Senior Center. “Every moment that we practiced was worth the time,” said a person served. “It was touching to see people happy and filled with joy and Blue Ridge members sang and danced along with us.” FHR member Will sang “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” receiving a tear-filled response from audience members.

On Thursday, December 19, CORTSAD made their final stop for the holiday season at the Wake Assisted Living Home. “People said they were very touched by our performance and told us we should come back for New Years,” said one consumer.

After many weeks of practicing, the CORTSAD group wrapped up their performances for the year and are looking forward to continuing this holiday tradition again next year.
