Ken Ryan joins staff on Cape Cod and the Islands
Falmouth, MA – July 12, 2012 - Fellowship Health Resources, Inc. (FHR) has hired former Red Sox pitcher Ken Ryan as its new Employment Specialist.
“I’m thrilled to be joining the staff here at FHR,” Ryan says. “The entire agency revolves around helping people, and I can’t think of a better way to make a difference than by working here.”
As the Employment Specialist for Cape Cod and the Islands, Ryan will work with individuals in all of FHR’s programs across the Cape. He will work individually with consumers, as well as with their Recovery Advocates, to develop skills, provide training, construct resumes, and more.
“Securing employment is a major part of mental health and substance abuse recovery,” explains Ryan. “Obtaining a goal is very rewarding for any individual. In this new role, I will assist those working to reach these goals and become a resource for them.”
Prior to FHR, Ryan played professional baseball for more than 15 years. For three of those years, he played on the Boston Red Sox, and another three on the Philadelphia Phillies. He also owns and operates KR Baseball Academy in Pawtucket, RI. “I love working with kids, teaching them how to pitch and how to play the game,” he says. “It’s another great way of giving back to the community.”
At FHR, the staff continues to build relationships in the community to secure employment for its members. “We’re excited to have Ken working here at FHR. He will provide the tools and help build the community resources; however, persons served will remain the driving force behind their recovery. They’ll take responsibility for the tasks necessary to establish steady employment,” FHR President/CEO Joe Dziobek explains.
Community relations and partnerships will be significant to this program’s success. “After assessing the talents and wishes of our consumers, we have to find those businesses and organizations looking for help,” Ryan says. “We’ll establish contracts and monitor individual progress as it relates to their recovery. Getting involved with the employment services at FHR will be a wonderful way for any local organization to give back to the community.”
