Dan recalls the moment he reached his rock-bottom point; a day that he had intended to be special for his daughter’s birthday.
“Instead, the drunk me showed up,” Dan explained.
“I had about 15 or 20 Percocets in me, and my friend picked me up. We went from bar to bar, and the next thing I can remember is waking up at my mother’s house the
morning after,” he said.
He acknowledged that day that he needed help, and says that it has been an uphill climb ever since.
When Dan began receiving services from FHR’s Behavioral Health Outpatient Treatment (CBHOT) program, something just ‘clicked.’
“The staff are amazing people, and the way they put it in front of me, the knowledge they have - they helped me find myself,” Dan said.
Dan has now graduated from the program, and has made it a priority in his life to focus on helping others. Through working at the Community Resource Center in Delaware, he assists community members in finding jobs, housing, and additional assistance with social services. He shares with a smile that he has had the opportunity to reconnect with his children.
“They like who they see now. I like who I see, too.”
